With the knowledge that the cost of line-stopper situations are staggering, we are therefore geared up to provide a reactive alternative for this type of unexpected critical situation.

In one example, SMS Time Critical were delivering "just in time components" (JIT) to a vehicle production line in the West Midlands, with vehicles leaving every 30 minutes from one of our manufacturing component customers based in Kent. Without warning, a vehicle accident a few miles ahead completely closed the M25 motorway in both directions for 1 hour. SMS were aware that any delays would have had devastating financial consequences, plus our customer's reputation as a supplier would be tarnished.

After assessing the situation, it was apparent that all 6 vehicles involved were going nowhere. SMS informed the client who made us fully aware that if their components halted the vehicle assembly production line; they would incur financial penalties of £13,000.00 for every 5 minutes of down-time. SMS reacted promptly to the situation and within 15 minutes a helicopter was airborne, on its way to collect the necessary parts from the component manufacturer and deliver them to the vehicle production line. SMS managed to avert the customer being fined £372,000.00 and of course their reputation was left intact.
